Peer Counseling

Family Health Council of Central Pennsylvania supports and promotes breastfeeding as the best nutrition for babies that offers advantages for both new moms and their children.

Our Breastfeeding Peer Counselors meet individually with pregnant and new moms and teach them how to successfully breastfeed their infants. Their services include:

  • Education, help and encouragement for breastfeeding moms
  • Breast pumps for moms who need them
  • Classes and support groups for both pregnant and breastfeeding women

Over 13,000 contacts were made to prenatal and breastfeeding participants by Breastfeeding Peer Counselors. With the help of these counselors, 75% of babies were fully breastfed without any formula from WIC.
